NCEC (www.ncec.com.au) is an award winning social enterprise based in North East Brisbane. We generate employment for our members by mowing public parks, gardening and landscaping. 

About the role:

A Leading Hand is sought for NCEC's Parks and Maintenance Team

NCEC is a workers co-operative and social enterprise maintaining a number of properties in Brisbane's Inner North 

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Gardening and/or Landscaping, a commitment to Co-operative principles (https://www.ica.coop/en/cooperatives/cooperative-identity) and value an inclusive workplace

The leading hand will be responsible for maintaining contract requirements and leading a small team of workers under guidance of senior manager

Benefits and Perks

The position is full time for 38 hours per week. Hours are 7 a.m.- 3.00 p.m. Monday -  Friday

Remuneration and conditions are according to the Gardening and Landscaping Award 2020 commensurate with experience and including leading hand and other relevant loadings. Above award conditions and salary packaging benefits are also available

Selection Criteria

N.C.E.C. Parks and Maintenance Leading Hand

  1. Expertise in park and garden maintenance activities e.g. zero turn operation, line trimming, hedge trimming and pruning and maintenance of indoor plants
  2. Ability to plan and prioritise and report on work as set out in works contract
  3. Ability to organise self and work team
  4. Ability to work as part of a team and take supervision and direction from Parks Manager and Coordinator of N.C.E.C.
  5. A commitment to creating a work environment inclusive of diversity
  6. Ability to relate to and communicate with colleagues and customers in a clear, effective and genuine manner
  7. A demonstrated ability and expertise in ensuring compliance with health and safety systems
  8. Oversee day to day equipment maintenance and service scheduling 
  9. Small Business/Entrepreneurial capacity and experience (advantageous)
  10. Horticultural / Landscaping certificate (advantageous)
  11. Have a current Driver's Licence
  12. Have or be willing to apply for a National Police Check (successful check will be required for start)
  13. Have or be willing to apply for ACDC Chemical Application Certificate and First Aid Certificate
