The position

The position is offered as a full time, maximum term contract to 30 June 2023, with the possibility of extension if funding allows. The role is based at the North West Metro AOD office located in Preston and covers off on the North Catchment. This position is an embedded role, and the clinician will be co-located at a Uniting led site.

The key purpose of the AOD Clinician: Counselling and Assessment position is to provide high quality engagement, assessment, treatment and support services to individuals and their families, through evidence-based, therapeutic counselling and group work. This position reports to the Programs Coordinator.

A day in the life of this position includes:

  • Conducting assessments
  • Contributing to clinical reviews
  • Developing treatment plans
  • Making assertive referrals to other services
  • Providing interventions to help clients reduce the harms of their substance use
  • Providing clients with post treatment support plans
  • Collaborating with other services involved in clients’ care
  • Maintaining contemporaneous case notes
