Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thamarrurr Catholic College is a remote Aboriginal school located in Wadeye 400 km South West of Darwin. The Kardu Diminin people are the traditional owners of the Wadeye country. There are over 20 clans from the surrounding Thamarrurr region residing in Wadeye and attending the school. The school operates a Family as First Teachers (FaFT) program, preschool, primary and secondary school. The majority of people in Wadeye speak Murrinhpatha as a first language. The school has been delivering bilingual education in Murrinhpatha and English for over 40 years.
Maintain and develop the Certificate II in Applied Languages in collaboration with local Aboriginal assistant teachers and the school’s Literature Production Centre including resource production.
Collaborate with current staff to develop a Murrinhpatha language and culture curriculum across the Secondary school.
The candidate ideally has a strong background in linguistics and education and a knowledge of Australian Aboriginal languages.
Preferably the candidate would be a registered teacher and hold a Cert. IV in Training and Assessment, but the school would consider applications from those with a linguistics background who do not hold either.
Candidates must be eligible to work in Australia and will be required to hold a current NT Working with Children Clearance notice (Ochre Card).
