If so, you could be part of our dynamic team and make a difference to older people. You will be responsible for providing our CEO with media relations support and acting as the primary content writer for OPAN. In addition, the role will contribute to building and implementing communication and marketing strategies, as well as support digital communication platforms.

About OPAN

OPAN is a national network of independent member organisations that give a voice to older people who are eligible or receiving aged care services. The network provides free, confidential, aged care advocacy, information and education to older Australians, their families or representatives. We are independent of the government and aged care providers.

OPAN, the national body, works with the government to influence aged care policy through systemic advocacy. The nine state and territory member organisations deliver advocacy services for older people across Australia. Our collective vision is of a society where older people are heard, informed and respected, and where they can enjoy and exercise their rights to live fulfilling lives.

About the role

You will be responsible for OPAN's media relations and act as our primary content writer.

Key responsibilities include:

Public Relations      

  • Generate greater awareness for the OPAN name and brand, and the role of aged care advocacy, to support older Australians receiving aged care, their families and representatives 
  • Provide media advice and guidance to CEO
  • Increase media engagement, positioning OPAN as the “go to” place for aged care commentary
  • Seek and develop media opportunities with journalists and media channels to promote both the CEO and the network.

Content writer

  • As the main content writer for OPAN, create content which is aligned with OPAN’s “voice” and strategic directions 
  • When necessary, assist other departments by reviewing documents and reports 

About you (selection criteria)

  • Minimum of two years’ experience across either journalism, media or public relations
  • Qualifications in communication, journalism, media or public relations (preferable)
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce a broad range of quality written material for a variety of audiences
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills
  • Superior writing skills
  • High level information technology capabilities
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills

The successful applicant will hold or be able to obtain a current National Criminal Record Check.
