About OPAN

OPAN is a national network of independent member organisations that give a voice to older people who are eligible or receiving aged care services. The network provides free, confidential, aged care advocacy, information and education to older Australians, their families or representatives. We are independent of the government and aged care providers.

OPAN, the national body, works with the government to influence aged care policy through systemic advocacy. The nine state and territory member organisations deliver advocacy services for older people across Australia. Our collective vision is of a society where older people are heard, informed and respected, and where they can enjoy and exercise their rights to live fulfilling lives.

Position Summary

OPAN and its members have received considerable funding in the recent budget announcements. To effectively utilise this funding new advocates need to be employed nationally at each of the member organisations. This role will coordinate a working group to develop the Advocacy Academy bringing together a standard set of requirements from members and assist with the development of training and induction.

Reporting to the Business Manager, the Project Officer is responsible for administering and coordinating recruitment and other projects to support OPAN’s members' growth.

Role responsibilities

  • Coordinate the formation and ongoing collaboration and consultation of a working group. The working group’s aim will be to standardise on requirements to recruit and training for growth positions within the OPAN members.
  • Coordinate the development of Advocacy Academy training and induction plans
  • Support the development of Advocacy Academy training content in conjunction with the working group and OPAN members
  • Support trainers and delivery of the Advocacy Academy
  • Administer, coordinate and evaluate a range of recruitment and business programs designed to support OPAN’s members’ growth nationally.
  • Work closely with the HR Adviser, Business & Special Projects Manager and OPAN members to determine project resourcing requirements
  • Assist in designing recruitment strategies
  • Promote the programs to eligible applicants
  • Source suitability qualified and experienced candidates for consideration by OPAN members
  • Liaise with OPAN members to design and implement local candidate sourcing strategies including generation of referrals and local advertising
  • Pre-screen applicants to ensure eligibility criteria are met
  • Liaise with OPAN members as appropriate
  • Develop, update and maintain program information and operational procedures for projects

  • Maintain and initiates regular and professional communication on the progress of a project with Business & Special Project Manager, senior management and other work colleagues from OPAN member organisations.

Skills and Experience

Experience and knowledge

  • Previous experience in a Project Officer / HR Officer / Recruiter role
  • Demonstrated experience in program delivery, with demonstrated planning and organisational skills
  • Experience in the recruitment industry or similar
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a work team, taking personal responsibility for achieving work outcomes as well as working independently
  • Computer literacy including experience with MS Office, Outlook, and online research skills

  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to deal with a wide range of individuals on a daily basis in a consultative professional manner;

  • High-level organisation skills including well-developed priority-setting skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in project management, human resources OR relevant work experience
  • Ability to obtain a National Police Check
