The Opportunity

  • Permanent - Full time position
  • Salary Packaging - up to $9,010 per year
  • Location: Liverpool/Westmead/Darlinghurst

Reporting to the Open Support Operations Manager, you will have a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the ongoing operation of the existing service and crisis facility and for the development and growth of the Open Support DFV Program, including the unique opportunity to lead operational planning and assist in the commissioning of a new crisis facility scheduled for completion in 2022. Your experience within the domestic and family violence service sector and expertise in working with culturally diverse communities, combined with your excellent management and networking capabilities will be essential in ensuring the delivery of our key strategic outcomes including:

  • Embedding and building best practice within existing DFV services.

  • Operational planning for second crisis facility in Westmead.

  • Continuing to develop and refine support pathways for women on temporary visas who are escaping DFV.

  • Enhancing organisational capacity to deliver services to families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

  • Continuing to embed and expand the Open Support Child Wellbeing Program for children accessing Open Support DFV Services.

Open Support offices are located within St Vincent’s Clinic at Darlinghurst. The successful applicant will be expected to work across existing DFV sites at Liverpool and Westmead.

Essential Criteria

  • Only female applicants should apply given the nature of the service which is allowable under the provisions of the Anti-Discrimination Act (NSW) 1977).
  • Qualification in Social Work, Human Services (Welfare), Community Development or related discipline and/or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in program coordination, preferably within the DFV or homelessness sectors.
  • Strong background and/or relevant training in working with clients with complex needs, including DFV and clients from CALD backgrounds.
  • Experience in leading and managing teams within a strengths based, trauma informed practice framework.
  • Demonstrated positive and effective stakeholder management and partnership development, preferably within a community services network.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills including:

    • Strong interpersonal, active listening and negotiation skills and experience in effectively managing difficult situations.

    • Excellent written communication including report writing and the ability to tailor written work to intended readership.
    • Communicating effectively with people from diverse cultural background and linguistic needs.
    • Proficiency in using databases, Microsoft Office suite and the ability to learn new technologies as they become available.
  • A formal qualification in management and/or the ability to speak a language other than English would be highly regarded.

As one of our key service areas, we provide crisis and transitional accommodation, case management and child specific case support to culturally and linguistically diverse women and their children who have experienced and are escaping family violence. In addition to our crisis facility, support is also offered to clients who are transitioning or have transitioned from crisis accommodation to longer-term housing. Our DFV service is focused on ensuring that women and children are supported in ways that that leave them empowered to make choices that prioritise their own safety and wellbeing and that lead them to experience an increased sense of control and hope for their future.

Salary​

Salary will be in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.
