The Communications Coordinator will focus on publications and content creation, work within the Communications team, and support the wider organisation. The role is best suited to someone with a strong writing and storytelling ability and an overwhelming desire to do good in the world.

Families living in poverty without savings, healthcare and a reliable income are most affected by a pandemic. Maintaining a reliable income to access food and healthcare continues to be challenging. For families living in poverty—many of whom already rely on intermittent work—this could mean months without a sole income source. Opportunity’s work is more important now than ever.

The Role

Working alongside the National Communications Manager and the Digital Coordinator, the Communications Coordinator will engage key Australian audiences to raise awareness about the issue of poverty and Opportunity’s work in poverty alleviation. The Communications Coordinator will play an ‘all-rounder’ Communications role within Opportunity and have a particular focus on content creation including writing high-quality content for the Opportunity website, social media platforms and publications as well as producing video.

The Communications Coordinator will utilise their skills to coordinate publication production, develop collateral and provide communications and marketing support. Preferably, the Communications Coordinator will have high-level organisational skills, some graphic design editing knowledge, as well as video editing skills to contribute to building Opportunity’s presence. 

Additional focus will be given to media and PR opportunities, brand knowledge and adherence across the organisation.

The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the National Communications Manager to maintain, update and implement the Communications Strategy to support the wider organisational strategy and help achieve the organisation’s objectives.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Writing for publications, website and digital channels
  • Managing the production of key publications
  • Building electronic direct mails
  • Media, PR and relationship management
  • Support for fundraising team with marketing collateral
  • Updating media assets library

Your skills and attributes

Essential

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, PR or similar
  • Exceptional oral and written communications
  • Experience with InDesign and PhotoShop

Desirable

  • Interview skills
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit sector
  • Experience with video production (Premiere/Rush/FinalCut)
  • Proficiency on Campaign Monitor or similar
