  • Status: 12 month contract, 3 month probation, Full Time preferred Part Time (FTE 0.8) negotiable

  • Salary range: $100k to $130k pro-rata PT/FTE (based on experience), plus 12% superannuation and access to generous salary packaging.

Original Power is a growing organisation with projects operating on a national basis and including defence of country and climate change campaigning, and renewable energy development in the Northern Territory and other locations. We are also supporting the new First Nations Clean Energy Network to grow www.firstnationscleanenergy.org.au

We have a central office based in Melbourne and staff working on site and at home in the Northern Territory, QLD, NSW, WA, SA and other locations across Australia.

The Position

The Contracts and Compliance Manager will play a leading role in the development and management of Original Power’s portfolio of community-led renewable energy projects, with a focus on contract management and regulatory compliance.

Success in this role will require the ability to develop and maintain contracts and compliance processes, maintain a growing renewable energy asset base, and ensure regulatory and legal compliance to support the successful long-term operation and maintenance of projects across First Nations communities.

The Contracts and Compliance Manager will have strong project management skills and financial acumen, and will support a small and dedicated team of staff operating across urban and remote locations in Australia.

The role will work from home and will also be asked to travel from time to time to undertake project activity and participate in organisational gatherings.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develop, review and manage contracts and compliance processes across Original Power’s portfolio of renewable energy projects and program activities
  • Undertake scoping of legal and regulatory pathways and compliance plans for new and existing renewable energy projects and assets across remote First Nations communities in the Northern Territory and other locations around Australia.
  • Oversee regulatory processes including Connection and Power Purchase Agreements, and contracts with a range of renewable energy industry service providers.
  • Oversee risk management and procurement processes to ensure our community partners and projects achieve value for money and other key objectives, while ensuring our project activities are adequately protected.
  • Participate in and support organisational strategic planning and goal setting as needed
  • Supporting our community partners to identify potential commercial opportunities from community energy project development

Selection Criteria

Experience & Demonstrated Skills – Required:

  • At least three years’ experience in a like role with ability to undertake core requirements of the role
  • Ability to establish and maintain new risk management and compliance strategies and processes that support the delivery, operation and maintenance of our suite of renewable energy projects
  • A robust understanding of the overall principles of asset management and how technical decisions impact asset lifecycle performance is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal team, external clients and community members.
  • Highly organised and detail oriented with proven ability to work under pressure, adapt to change and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with good attention to detail
  • Fit with organisation values and culture, and a sound level of cultural knowledge with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations

Mandatory Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience

Qualifications & Skills – Highly Desirable

  • Familiarity with clean energy strategic areas that are a focus of Original Power’s work and experience in developing renewable energy initiatives
  • Experience in working remotely with the ability to manage your own time
  • Familiarity with project management tools and software
