ABOUT THE ROLE

Working as one of three Managers within the Government Relations, Policy and Evidence Directorate, this role is responsible for managing Our Watch’s government relations work, leading a team of Senior Advisors and Advisors.

This important leadership role will be responsible for:

  • developing and implementing Our Watch’s Government Relations Strategy
  • building and managing stakeholder relationships, particularly with Commonwealth, State and Territory parliamentarians and their staff, and with government agencies and departments.
  • providing support and advice to governments to progress structural, legislative and policy reform to address the drivers of, and prevent, violence against women
  • managing Our Watch’s specific partnerships with State and Territory Governments, including supervision of Our Watch staff ‘embedded’ in State and Territory Governments and expanding this model across jurisdictions
  • providing support and advice across the organisation to support the Director Government Relations, Policy and Evidence, CEO and Board engagement with Ministers, government representatives, other political stakeholders and key decision-makers
  • working collaboratively with other non-government stakeholders.

The role also works in a range of other ways to engage Ministers, governments, policy makers and key decision makers in all jurisdictions, to:

  • communicate and promote Our Watch’s policy positions and build governmental support for and commitment to the vision and work of Our Watch
  • drive legislative, regulatory and policy changes required to prevent violence against women, in line with the evidence base outlined in Change the Story: A shared framework for the primary prevention of violence against women and their children in Australia and other Our Watch publications and work
  • support Our Watch’s government Member Representatives.

ABOUT YOU

You will be an experienced leader and have significant government relations experience, strong stakeholder engagement and partnership skills, and strong people management skills. Key to the success of this role will be the ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships with other Managers and teams within the GRPE Directorate and across Our Watch. You will also be expected to play a constructive and effective leadership role within Our Watch, including as part of the organisation’s Leadership Group.

This role can be worked remotely from any location within Australia, hybrid work arrangements available in Victoria. Work from Home options are available.
