TITLE: Refuge Support Worker

ROLE OF THE POSITION
- Provide comprehensive client focused support, advocacy and assistance for women with or without accompanying children who have experienced family and domestic violence and are experiencing complex issues
- Provide a safe and secure accommodation environment for all clients and staff
STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Responsibilities
- Provide a client focused 24/7 accommodation service for women with or without children who have experienced family and domestic violence with complex needs
- Work alongside OVIS staff to provide support, advocacy and referrals with a therapeutic client focus
- Provide clients with practical support with their day to day duties
- Provide family and domestic violence education to clients
- Network and link with other service providers to provide a client focused collaborative support
- Provide therapeutic programs and activities to clients and their children who are residing in the refuge
- Represent OVIS on committees or relevant community groups as required
- Provide a comprehensive hand over on completion of every shift
- Work alongside clients to ensure a positive journey through client empowerment, education and independence
- Carry out domestic duties inside and outside the refuge accommodation
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients in accordance with OH&S policies as outlined in Policies and Procedures
- Operate within OVIS’ ethics, policy, procedures and guidelines
- Participate in agency meetings, training and team building
- Participate in service development and planning
- Other duties as directed
Professional Development
- Maintain own professional development through performance management and participation in relevant education and training
- Attend supervision
- Participate in the supervision of students on placement
- Provide input into workplace development planning for OVIS Community Services Domestic Violence Services
Administration
- Respond to telephone and onsite enquiries
- Complete shift duties as per shift duty guide
- Attend staff meetings monthly and minute as requested
- Participate in the collection and maintenance of the data systems, day books, client information and diary
- Maintain relevant case notes
- Document clearly all details required for emergency relief cash, petty cash and other monies
- Liaise with trade people in the maintenance and upkeep of the Refuge premises when requested

- Refuge Standards, including Code of Professional Behaviour
- Domestic Violence best practice

- Other legislation/policies relevant to the crisis accommodation and welfare industry and/or position

Hours of Work
- Part-time as per roster
- Must have availability to work on 24-hour roster 7 days a week
- Penalty rates apply according to shifts worked.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential Criteria
- Diploma in Community Services or relevant experience in the human services sector
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting women and children who have experienced family and domestic violence
- Demonstrated experience working with clients with complex issues such as mental health and drugs and alcohol
- Ability to provide a therapeutic holistic service to clients and their accompanying children
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and work autonomously within a team environment
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous community issues
- Knowledge and understanding of issues facing culturally and linguistically diverse people
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of confidentiality
- Computer literacy
*Applicants with child support experience will be highly regarded.

- Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
