OzChild is looking for a Registered Mental Health Nurse to join their Multisystemic Therapy for Child Abuse and Neglect (MST-CAN) team based in Campbelltown, NSW. This Part-Time permanent role is ideal for a registered Nurse Practitioner / Psych Nurse looking for extra hours work.

Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse at OzChild:

MST-CAN provides intensive treatment to families for a period of around 6 to 9 months including specific clinical treatments that target areas such as trauma, mental health and drug and alcohol misuse.

Multisystemic Therapy for Child Abuse and Neglect (MST-CAN) is a researched community-based treatment model directed at families with children aged 6-17 years old. As a member of this team, you will deliver treatment according to the multisystemic therapy principles with the aim of producing positive change for children and families.

Your role:

The role of the Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is to assist MST-CAN Therapists in providing positive clinical treatment outcomes for children and their families who have come to the attention of child protection services due to physical abuse and/or neglect.

The role of the Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will assist with family safety planning including diagnostic and medication treatment where appropriate. As the Mental Health Nurse providing Multisystemic Therapy you will work with families who are at imminent risk of having their children removed due to ongoing physical abuse or neglect.

Duties:

  • Provide mental health/psychiatric evaluations of children and adult family members.
  • On-going interface with the MST-CAN treatment team concerning mental health and medical diagnoses that pertain to child and adult family members.
  • Act as a community liaison with outside physicians/psychiatrists concerning medical or psychiatric care of child and adult family members.
  • Coordinates hospitalisation of child and adult family members as needed.

You will have:

  • Full registration as a Mental Health Practitioner/Psychiatric Nurse.
  • Two year accredited Masters Degree (Nurse Practitioner) which includes pharmacological and prescribing qualifications.
  • Registrations with nursing and midwifery board of Australia (NSW).
  • Experience working with child and adult mental health.
  • Experience could be in child and family welfare field (Child Protection, Out of Home Care, Family Services and/or other services working with vulnerable families and children).
