Parents Beyond Breakup is looking for a Director to join our current Board. Must have lived experience of family breakdown. A professional with a Psychology/Psychiatry background is highly sought. 

ABOUT Parents Beyond Breakup Ltd (ACNC Registered Charity)

  • Established in 1999, Parents Beyond Breakup (PBB) is a National Suicide Prevention Charity focused on supporting separating parents with custody and access issues to their children.

  • PBB’s vision is “All children enjoy the best possible relationship with both their parents”

  • PBB’s mission is “Keeping separating parents alive and in their kids' lives - by providing hope, support and a voice.”

  • As a charity registered with ACNC, PBB provides national (cross Australia) Lived-Experience peer support services both in-person and online, suicide prevention training and a helpline in support of separated Dads, Mums and grandparents.

Role selection criteria:

Applications are invited from individuals who have demonstrated high level of skills/experience in any of the following areas:

Important criteria

  • Adult child, Parent or Grandparent with lived experience of family breakdown
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in the suicide prevention sector

Desirable criteria

  • Charitable Governance
  • Project Management
  • First Nations
  • Psychology / Psychiatry
  • Law
  • Established person (e.g. OAM, JP, Dr, Prof. etc.)
  • Leadership

Location

  • As PBB is a virtual online organisation, you can be based anywhere in Australia, but we especially welcome applications from WA, SA, NT and TAS to widen the geographic spread (and representation) of our directors.

Responsibility:

  • Contribute to the strategic direction of PBB.
  • Governance of PBB.
  • 3-year commitment (directors have 3-year tenures).
  • Provide geographic and/or expert insight to inform board decisions.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly Board meetings (80% attendance rate required), Annual General Meeting, strategic planning, and all out-of-scope meetings as required.
  • Involvement in a Board subcommittee to include taking responsibility in any areas of expertise that you have, when needed.

  • Application

  • Appointment to the role of Director is subject to successful police clearance, after successful interviews with existing Board of Directors.

All new Board Members are required to comply with all legal requirements under ASIC and ACNC; and provide their directors ID number (DIN) or be willing to obtain one.

Start Date: Dec’24-Jan’25
