The Paul Ramsay Foundation’s mission is to break cycles of disadvantage in Australia. The Foundation partners with individuals and organisations to support promising ideas and methods, scalable innovation, and adaptive practice. Its current strategic focus is Learning Lives, Transitions to Employment, and Justice and Safety.

Within the Foundation, the Insights unit supports and reinforces the Foundation’s culture of evidence-driven discovery of what matters most to predict and disrupt cyclical disadvantage. The Insights unit drives the strategy, design, execution and dissemination of research, data and evidence projects to support actors across Australia to break cycles of disadvantage.

There is an exciting opportunity to join the Insights unit as an Insight Analyst or Associate. The Insight Analyst/Associate will work with colleagues to design the Foundation’s overall research, data and evidence portfolio, and to design and manage individual research projects. The position will need to identify pathways to impact, visualise and synthesize cross-sector evidence, and collaborate with researchers and experts from across universities, not-for-profits and the private sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with the Head of Research and Insights unit to develop and execute a vision, agenda, and portfolio of research, data and evidence grantee partnerships.
  • Collaborates with external researchers and experts to codesign impactful research, data and evidence projects aimed to address disadvantage.
  • Analyses and translates research into actionable insights for the Foundation and other social policy actors.
  • Supports the development of impactful grantee partnerships by drawing on the latest research, data and evidence to support the Foundation in targeting the most effective offramps from the cycle of disadvantage.
  • Works collaboratively with all PRF teams to sustain knowledge sharing and identification of insights generated across grantee partner activities.
  • Supports multiple communication platforms to translate and synthesise findings from projects and emerging literature, including data visualisation and story telling.
  • Produces responsive and timely range of written analysis, including weekly insight reports, quarterly reporting, and ongoing web content in coordination with the Alliances team and Head of Research.
  • Works with Head of Research and the PRF Research Committee to establish internal processes to reflect, synthesise and continuous learn from the individual and portfolio scale research.
  • Works with the Head of Research and Insights unit to deepen relationships with the research and data community and partners.

  • A keen interest in the overall development of the Australian social policy research and data landscape
  • Ability to synthesise research and translate insights for a non-specialist audience.
  • Belief in creative visualisation and storytelling as a means of connecting audiences to research
  • A consultative style, and comfort with working in an emerging team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships with diverse key stakeholders (internal and external)
  • A team player determined to translate ideas into actions and seek concrete results.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Extensive experience in research design, and with quantitative and qualitative research methods. This may include statistical, econometrical, geospatial, ethnographic, or participatory approaches.
  • Experience working in research, data and evidence generation related to programs or initiatives in social policy, particularly those looking to address entrenched disadvantage and seeking to support children to achieve their potential.
  • Excellent communication and written skills, with the ability to synthesise complex policy and academic literature to communicate key ideas effectively to non-specialist audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience working with academic experts and/or immersion in research environments.
  • Knowledge of transdisciplinary or interdisciplinary methods.
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates confidence and flexibility in demanding, highly varied environments
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative as well as see through projects to completion
  • 5 years or more of work or volunteer experience in related fields
  • Undergraduate degree, with a postgraduate degree viewed favourably
