The Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) is a leading social justice law and policy centre. We are an independent, non-profit organisation that works with people and communities who are marginalised and facing disadvantage. We work to build a fairer, stronger society by helping to change laws, policies and practices that cause injustice and inequality.

Reporting to the Principal Solicitor and working as part of the strategic litigation team, your focus will be on PIAC’s ‘A Fairer NDIS’ work. Specifically, you will lead a new project designed to deliver better outcomes for decision-making under the NDIS for participants requesting specialist disability accommodation (SDA). Additionally, you will:

• Provide strategic legal assistance to participants who have had requests for funding denied
• Work with PIAC’s partners to identify appropriate test cases
• Run litigation and drive systemic change

You have 5 years+ post-admission experience in legal practice relevant to PIAC’s NDIS work including administrative law. Ideally, you have managed appeals casework or litigation, preferably in the AAT or Federal Court with an understanding of the NDIS Act 2013. Additionally, you:

• Are eligible for an unrestricted practicing certificate in NSW
• Able to undertake high quality legal research, draft effective briefs and advices
• Have capacity to identify and develop innovative legal strategies
