About the Organisation

Lifeline is Australia’s leading suicide prevention service. We are a national charity providing all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24-hour crisis support.

Suicide is a national crisis, and sadly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are twice as likely to die by suicide than the broader population.

Lifeline Australia’s vision is an Australia free of suicide. To achieve this, we are collaborating with key Indigenous Specialists to ring together those with the cultural knowledge, expertise and connection with Aboriginal and Torrs Strait Islander communities and those with extensive helpline delivery infrastructure and experience.

This collaboration will develop employment opportunities and pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and ultimately provide a service that will help save Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lives.

About the role

The Clinical Lead will provide support, advice and information to the workforce delivering Indigenous crisis support service and contribute to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of crisis support practice, policy, and guidance for all crisis support programs delivered by Lifeline. The Clinical Lead will work closely with and contribute to the work of the Lifeline Australia Clinical Practice team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide your expert opinion and guide the development of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Crisis Support Service skills and interventions framework.
  • Provide leadership and subject matter expertise to the project and the wider business as required.
  • Contribute to the design, delivery and continuous improvement of all clinical content and provide support for the ongoing improvement of training programs for both Lifeline Australia and corporate training initiatives outside of the project.
  • As a senior clinician, work effectively with the Clinical Manager and Practice Team to enhance the knowledge and capability of the team and provide coaching and mentorship to other clinicians.
  • Collaborate on and support the implementation of Lifeline Australia policies and procedures relating to clinical governance, risk and quality assurance.

About you

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced Senior Clinician with strong organisational and leadership skills, and a background in policy and project management. You will have a culturally focused, deep understanding of suicide prevention and mental health issues within Indigenous communities. You will apply your expert knowledge regarding effective intervention and engagement strategies for Indigenous people experiencing suicidal ideation or a mental health crisis to the development and design of the service.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant degree qualifications and experience in psychology, social work, mental health nursing or counselling, or equivalent in human, community or social services.
  • Eligible for registration as a mental health professional (psychologist, social worker or mental health nurse), or relevant accreditation in other fields (e.g., PACFA Clinical Member).

Key Selection Criteria

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of suicide prevention and mental health issues as they are experienced by Indigenous Australians
  • Experience delivering suicide prevention and mental health interventions
  • Experience in leading and managing service delivery teams or project teams
  • Stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Supervisory experience supporting mental health professionals with and advising on clinical matters and therapeutic interventions.
