Seed is Australia's first and only Indigenous Youth Climate Network. We are building a movement led by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to protect our country, culture and communities from the causes and impacts of climate change. Since launching as a semi-autonomous branch of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC) in 2014, Seed has rapidly grown to be a powerful, national grassroots network of over 250 volunteers across the country. We provide platforms for Indigenous young people to build their skills, confidence, and networks to lead action on climate justice campaigns in their communities.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Communications Director is a key senior leadership role in the Seed staff team, providing high-level strategic leadership, support, and direction across all communications, creative content development as well as traditional and digital media.
In this role, you will manage Seed’s Communications Team and work in close collaboration with all other areas of the organisation to ensure we are delivering consistent, compelling, and values-driven communications that cuts through and connect with our audiences. This includes supporting our staff and volunteer leaders to be confident spokespeople, whilst also collecting and curating powerful content that is highly shareable, educational and offers entry-points for actions to have impact. The Communications Director is a key contributor to shaping the public narrative on climate change.

As Communications Director, you will manage the development and implementation of Seed’s communications and media strategy. Ideally, you will be willing and able to travel (in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions) and obtain a Working with Children Check or state/territory equivalent. It would be a bonus if you also had skills relating to videography and/or graphic design.
Formal education and qualifications matter less to us than excellence, initiative, and drive. If even a couple of these criteria speak to you, you could be the candidate we’re looking for and we’d love for you to apply!
