About the role

The First Nations Justice Senior Campaigner will be an integral part of the First Nations Justice Team and you will work within this team of change makers to deliver campaigns that achieve real life social change for First Nations communities and their peoples on the issues they want to see action on. Core accountabilities of the role include:

  • Drafting, devising, and reviewing campaign strategies in accordance with campaigning team goals and organisational strategies, including writing and reviewing high quality campaign content across all GetUp channels
  • Leadership on campaign research, planning, evaluation, and management of campaign staff
  • Monitorisation of the latest news and recommending appropriate courses of action
  • Supporting key engagement with stakeholders, including traditional owners, land councils, community leaders and political offices
  • Representation of the organisation in the community and the media

About you

You will be an experienced professional with a demonstrated track record of working collaboratively and communicating effectively within First Nations communities. To be successful in this role, you will be/have:

  • Capable of working autonomously on a range of different tasks, events, and projects
  • A high level of organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative in order get the job done and keep on track
  • At least two years’ professional experience in the workforce, such as activism, as copywriters, journalism, public relations speciality, teaching, as community workers, communications speciality, and/or academics

Essential Requirements

1. Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Key Position Requirements

2. Cultural competency including a deep understanding of the issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and a demonstrated commitment to justice for First Nations peoples.

3. Demonstrated communication skills including the ability to think through complex political issues and communicate them simply and clearly.

4. Ability to form a good rapport with a diverse range of people including First Nations volunteers, staff, and organisations.

5. High level digital skills with a willingness to learn new technologies, thriving in a fast-paced environment.

6. Strong ability to work in a team, bringing ‘off the wall’ creativity and ideas to the FNJT team.

Desirable Requirements

7. Experience in Get-up style online campaigning, working in a media cycle, journalism, or copywriting.
