The Opportunity at Plan International Australia

Our Partnerships & Influence Team is searching for a Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor to support the team. This role centres specifically around support centring young people, particularly girls and women affected by crisis. You will lead, advise and support PIA programs & influence through researching, project managing and supporting strategies on key issues related to gender equality in emergencies.

Your approach will entail building coalitions for change and collaborating with partners; including our Country Offices and Global Hub, local partnering agencies within the Asia Pacific region, as well as Australian development sector partners and allied organisations working on similar issues.

Together with leaders across the organisation, you will ensure the adoption of safeguarding policies and intersectional feminist leadership principles, and you will support young people, particularly girls, in all their diversity in their peace building efforts, education opportunities and transformative systems change for peace.

Please note this is a part-time role on a 12 month contract, with the possibility of extension.

What you’ll do

• Coordinate key strategic policy, research, evaluations, learning and advocacy activities that influence and practice related to gender and emergencies
• Centre the voices and experiences of young people in gender and emergency practice
• Develop and maintain strong partnerships and relationships with identified external stakeholders in the development sector, DFAT and government space to build support for change
• Strengthen the evidence base for Gender and Inclusion in Plan programs and policies

What you’ll bring

• Demonstrated experience developing advocacy strategies and influence systemic change in policy and practice
• Knowledge of international standards in development and humanitarian situations
• Experience working with young people and supporting youth-driven advocacy
• Excellent research, policy analysis and writing skills, as well as program development, evaluation, project proposal and budget preparation skills
