This is an exciting leadership opportunity critical to the growth and reach of our small charity. Possums & Co (www.possumsonline.com) provides innovative and internationally leading, evidence-based programs for the support of perinatal and infant mental health. We provide health professionals opportunities to upskill in Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC or ‘the Possums programs’). NDC is a holistic approach to the care of parents and their babies when challenges emerge in the domains of breastfeeding, sleep, infant cry-fuss behaviours and parental mood. Possums also provides parent-friendly online programs, and peer support within our Parent Hub.

Possums & Co is undergoing significant operational change to support our growth. Tasks include managing a new program (NDC Rural), funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health’s Perinatal Mental Health and Well-being Program, to bring NDC to health professionals and new mothers in rural and remote parts of Australia over the next 3 years. Other tasks include extending Possum’s international reach, for both health professionals and parents, and supporting Possum’s research and education programs.

About the role:

This is a hands-on role reporting to the CEO, Dr Pamela Douglas. In conjunction with other senior staff, you will be accountable for leading, defining, prioritising, and delivering key strategic business improvement initiatives.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Management of the NDC Rural grant, through the implementation, reporting and evaluation phases in a way that positions Possums & Co for further government funding.
  • Development and growth of the NDC accreditation pathway for health professionals.
  • Development and growth of the Parent Hub and peer support opportunities.
  • Line management and support for clinical staff (including volunteers)
  • Supporting the NDC Practitioners
  • Recruitment of new NDC Practitioners
  • Working with other staff to support events and education undertaken by the organisation
  • Support the CEO and education subcommittee to:
  • Develop NDC clinical guidelines
  • Undertake relevant research

About you:

Essential selection criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications
  2. Strong initiative, drive and self-motivation
  3. Experience in working autonomously, as you will primarily be working from home
  4. Experience in health sector program management at a high level Knowledge, skills, and ability to manage multiple projects, from planning through to implementation and evaluation
  5. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with a proven ability to consult and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders including the capacity to give presentations, engage clinicians and negotiate change
  6. Demonstrated high level analytical, problem-solving and strategic skills including the ability to provide advice and recommendations
  7. Proven information technology skills.

Desired selection criteria

  1. Clinical experience in the health or mental health sector
  2. Experience in working in the not-for-profit sector
  3. Experience in undertaking research and writing program guidelines

Additional requirements

  1. Willingness (COVID-permitting) to travel to meet with other team members in Brisbane or to support educational events
  2. Willingness to upskill in NDC in order to understand the programs from the inside out
  3. Willingness to work out-of-hours on occasions for educational events
