Pets Of The Homeless (POTH) help keep vulnerable people and their pets together by alleviating the burden of providing essential pet care during times of hardship. We believe that the companionship and the therapeutic value of pets is immeasurable and nothing should come between a loving owner and their pet. Not homelessness. Not financial hardship. Not domestic violence. Pets are family – and nothing should stand in the way of that.
POTH is seeking an energetic, well-connected and committed Director with extensive social welfare experience to join its voluntary Board of Directors.
As POTH is a relatively young organisation, the Board consists of ‘working’ Directors who commit a generous amount of time to optimise the performance of POTH and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
Board members are expected to attend six Board meetings and six Strategy meetings each year at POTH headquarters in Cheltenham (or via digital communication channels), attend major fundraising events when possible, donate time to support delivery of initiatives (where required), and advocate and actively help raise funds for POTH.
The role includes but is not limited to:
Application of social welfare sector knowledge and experience to advise the Board on POTH’s existing and future programs, service delivery models, and its impact and reach to those facing homelessness
Working closely with the founder/CEO to ensure Board agreed program-related activities are completed as per agreed timelines
Contribute and apply knowledge and experience of the social welfare sector to further POTH’s overarching strategic objectives
In conjunction with the founder/CEO, be the public face of the Board when required (e.g. to volunteers, employees, and wider community)
Extensive direct experience within the social welfare sector, including experience with social services programs providing assistance to individuals and families experiencing (or at risk of) homelessness
Previous experience with Boards, understanding of corporate governance, and proven leadership/management skills
Effective communicator and collaborator, strong attention to detail, good commercial acumen
Passionate about Pets Of The Homeless’ mission, and human and animal welfare issues generally
Monthly two hour face-to-face attendance at Board/Strategy meetings held at POTH’s headquarters in Cheltenham or via digital communication channels
In-person attendance at POTH’s major fundraising events (approx. 1-3 events per year)
Own time required to complete the key responsibilities outlined above
The opportunity to shape and grow POTH as it positions itself to become a major player in this NFP space
Work with like-minded and passionate professionals dedicated to making a real difference for the people and animals we support and the wider community
