Community Engagement and Field Coordinator - Newman

Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa

ABOUT US

Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) is a Martu organisation established in 2005 to look after Martu culture and help build sustainable Martu communities. Martu are the traditional owners of the Martu native title determination and Karlamilyi National Park, spanning three desert bioregions and 15 million hectares. KJ works with Martu to build strong, sustainable communities in a manner that is Martu-focused and recognises and reinforces Martu values.

KJ’s on country work provides a foundation for many of KJ’s activities. It provides many Martu families with a major source of income, but also grounds a great deal of Martu engagement, pride and identity. On country work realises ubiquitous Martu aspirations: getting back to their traditional country, passing on knowledge and culture to younger generations, actively looking after country to make it healthy again and making Martu communities sustainable for the long term.

In line with KJ’s Country, Culture and Communities (CCC) framework and five-year strategic plan, KJ’s on country work encompasses a diverse array of activities and includes opportunities for Martu to access country for cultural, environmental, educational and social engagement and learning.
