Research and Policy Director - Flexible Location

Prosper Australia

Prosper Australia has achieved state, national and international reach in its pursuit of tax reforms aimed at creating wealth and jobs and making Australia a fairer and more equitable society.

The cornerstone of our approach is based on the work of economist, Henry George, who advocated for the elimination of taxes on income and production and replacing them with taxes on land, natural resources and natural monopolies.

We are seeking a creative researcher and policy brain to join our team of four. Prosper is at a critical point in development and this is a lynch pin role.

You will be responsible for delivering an ongoing program of research and public policy innovations, as well as contributing to broader project planning and strategy across the organisation.

You will play a key role in enhancing Prosper’s visibility and authority: championing our research and policy positions through network building, collaborative partnerships, and research linkages.

You'll undertake original research and analysis, writing clear and engaging reports, discussion papers, briefing notes etc.

You'll oversee research by others, writing interesting research briefs, finding and managing external research talent, volunteers and student interns.

You'll have a handle on the Australia economic and social policy landscape, and maybe some experience in policy roles, government and/or academia.

We think this role will suit a research qualified economist or similar with a flair for policy detail and a passion for any or all of the following: land and property taxation, value capture, environmental taxes, resource rent taxation, housing policy etc.

We are offering a secure, permanent part-time position, 0.6FTE/ 22.8hrs per week (or negotiable for the right candidate) working either entirely remotely or from our North Melbourne offices. Benefits include professional development, and flexible work arrangements.

ABOUT PROSPER

Prosper Australia is an independent, research, policy and advocacy organisation that advocates for a fundamental tax shift. We aim for the reduction of taxes on people and production to be replaced by a fair rent on land and monopolies. Our work builds on the economic and social theories developed by American economist, Henry George.

A fair rent on land and natural monopolies could provide all the community, education, welfare and health services we need, ensuring no-one lives in poverty and everyone can live with dignity in a fairer and more equitable society.
