About the Role

Purpose is seeking a talented individual with a background in campaigning and advocacy who can lead diverse teams on the strategy and execution of our campaigns work in Australia. You will oversee campaign development, manage relationships with partners and clients, and execute on campaigns that raise awareness and drive policy change on a range of issues including climate change, digital rights, public health and more. 

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Australian politics, as well as a good grasp of the issues playing out across our social and cultural landscape. Candidates will have demonstrated an ability to solve complex problems and oversee multiple moving pieces in a fast-paced environment. 

This is a full-time 12-month maximum term contract, preferably based in our Sydney office, with potential for extension. 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS 

The Campaign Manager will join Purpose’s Campaigns team, working across client and funder-driven projects. As the Campaign Manager, you will:

Campaign Strategy: 

  • Working with our team in Sydney as well as consultants and partners across the globe, contribute to developing and executing campaign strategies, maintaining an eye on new opportunities and adapting our work to suit the prevailing context. 
  • Work with partners to develop campaign narratives and messaging strategies ● Work with partners to develop integrated grassroots campaign strategies (digital, grassroots, paid, earned, owned, influencers etc.) that move people to action and change public narratives 
  • Play a critical role in campaign execution, overseeing a team of campaigners, strategists and creatives to develop campaign content (e.g., writing email and social media copy), executing offline tactics and stunts, running experiments (e.g. A/B email subject line tests), monitoring metrics, and sharing data-driven results 
  • Develop approaches to engage new audiences on important issues through creative campaign concepts and content that are optimised for participation and public engagement 

Partner Management: 

  • Be the main point person for campaign partnerships, working alongside partners to execute public mobilisation campaigns across the political spectrum ensuring we are working with a diverse range of organisations 
  • Identify and foster new partnership opportunities 
  • Act as a convener and advisor to partners, supporting them to develop campaigns and scale the impact of their organisation 

Media Relations 

  • Have a broad understanding of the media landscape in Australia and a proven record of engaging with national, local and new media to secure coverage on campaigns
  • Identify and reach out to relevant media contacts to pitch campaign as and when needed. 
  • Be able to identify and create media worthy moments in campaigns
  • Develop campaign narratives and identify storytelling opportunities and channels 

Content Creation 

  • Oversee campaign content creation and work with our creative team to bring to life campaigns through compelling creative work including videos, social graphics, banners and signs and offline collateral 

Across all work: 

  • Set a high standard for quality and efficiency of work products, and manage upward to flag concerns in a timely manner. 
  • Present work in a clear and well-structured manner, and facilitate trainings and convenings
  • Build relationships with multiple stakeholder contacts, growing trust and rapport as a go-to advisor 

ABOUT YOU

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with at least 2 years working in political or advocacy campaigning preferred 
  • A campaigning or political background either working with a non-profit advocacy organisation, or political party with a demonstrated track record developing campaign strategies that engage and mobilise audiences 
  • The ability to think creatively, imagining how campaigns come to life not just as strategy, but as stories, content, and experiences for different audiences
  • Relationship-building experience in a political, corporate, non-profit or community-related setting 
  • A high bar for quality, rigour and integrity in your own and colleagues' work
  • Demonstrated track record and/or interest in political or issue-based campaigning and advocacy 
  • Passion, a sharp mind, high integrity, a hands-on attitude, and an entrepreneurial, problem-solving spirit 
  • Collaborative and passionate about working with global teams that are from diverse backgrounds 
  • Committed to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment
  • Fluency in English
