Project Officer, Organisational Capacity Building - Engage-In Project, NSW

People with Disability Australia (PWDA)

People with Disability Australia (PWDA) is a national disability rights organisation. Its membership is made up of people with disability and organisations primarily constituted by people with disability. PWDA was founded in 1981, the International Year of Disabled Persons, to provide people with disability with a voice of our own. PWDA has a cross disability focus – we represent the interests of people with all kinds of disability. PWDA is a non-profit, non-government organisation. We employ over 50 staff with 25% working in regional areas.

PWDA’s Engage-In Project recognises that there is an abiding need to work with people with psychosocial disability in institutional settings, to inform them about the NDIS and mainstream supports and how to access these supports.

The Project will be enhanced by a commitment across PWDA to deepen our understanding of the range of issues faced by people with psychosocial disability through developing, facilitating, and enacting an appropriate training program. This will enable our board, staff, and members to gain greater awareness of the relevant issues impacting people with psychosocial disability; to improve staff work practices in psychiatric hospitals, prisons, and boarding houses; and, over time, for PWDA to extend its reach and expertise through encouraging people with psychosocial disability to become members and engage in our work, contribute to our mission, and shape our priorities.

This position is an identified position for people living with psychosocial disability.

This role will be based in our Surry Hills Office, with some flexibility to work from home. This is a part-time role of 14 hours per week. It will be a maximum term contract role for 12 months, with a possibility of extension, dependent of funding. Award Classification is Level 5 under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award 2010. PWDA pays above Award, and the salary on offer is $89,092 per annum (pro rata $35,636 for 0.4FTE) plus salary packaging and superannuation.

  • Lived experience of psychosocial disability
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a disability rights environment
  • Knowledge about how to create trauma safe spaces for consumers / survivors
  • Ability to apply the principles of co-design to the training program
  • Willingness to work effectively as a member of a diverse, inclusive team
  • Willingness to be mentored on group facilitation, and other training skills

  • Ability to travel intra and interstate

PWDA is a proud employer of people with disability, and people with disability are strongly encouraged to apply for these positions. We are an EEO employer and we embrace the diversity of our people, such as diversity in disability, race, cultural background, ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation or intersex status.
