About the Organisation

The Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Education Committee Aboriginal Corporation (PYEC) is an Anangu-run organisation that supports education of Anangu in the APY Lands. PYEC oversees education across the APY Lands and runs a number of projects to support the education and advancement of Anangu. PYEC has a close relationship with the South Australian Department for Education.

The APY Lands cover an area in excess of 100,000 square kilometres in northern South Australia and are extremely remote, with the nearest major town being five to six hours away in Alice Springs. The resident population is estimated to be 2,500 people spread across a number of communities and homelands. Predominant languages spoken are Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, as well as varying levels of English.

About the Role

The Corporate Services Manager will work closely with the General Manager to deliver administrative, compliance and corporate services management to enable PYEC to continue its leadership role in developing Anangu education strategy. The Corporate Services Manager will manage outsourced services and contracts; as well as leading, training and developing local Anangu to undertake this work. The Corporate Services Manager assists the GM to ensure compliance with all funding contracts for service delivery.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and review financial and operational plans, policies, and strategies with the GM and the Board
  • Negotiate, monitor, and manage contracts, leases, and other agreements with external suppliers to ensure effective performance
  • Manage compliance, reporting, finance, and performance targets to ensure contractual and compliance requirements are met
  • Establish and maintain a Risk Management Strategy to regularly monitor and review hazards and risks in the workplace
  • Manage PYEC assets and ensure that they are cost effective, fit for purpose, and appropriately maintained
  • Identify, implement, and maintain PYEC marketing and communications needs, systems, and processes
  • Implement and manage the HR administration system and ensure and Industrial Relations compliance

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Finance or accounting qualifications and financial management experience
  • Knowledge of governance principles and a capacity to administer within statutory, legal, and contractual obligations
  • Strategic development and analytical skills with the ability to create and implement practical and forward-thinking project plans, budgets, reports, resources, and solutions
  • Previous experience in a management role supervising, leading, or managing teams, ideally with an organisation delivering services to Aboriginal communities
  • Experience delivering and managing corporate services in an organisation of similar size and complexity
  • Remote regional living experience and ability to live in Alice Springs with the ability to drive long distances across APY Lands and Maralinga Tjarutja (including Oak Valley and Yalata)
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work and liaise with First Nations people and organisations and facilitate their involvement in consultations and project activities
  • Demonstrated experience in, or commitment to Indigenous capacity building through mentoring, training, and development
  • Demonstrated experience working with computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

  • A current ‘C’ class driver’s license and 4WD experience
