Administration Officer

QCC is looking for an allrounder super hero - someone whose wide ranging experience and skills in all things organisational will help us to meet some pretty ambitious goals over the next few years.

You are skilled in administering and improving office systems, and your expertise is working with a team to keep things running smoothly, even if this means using your people skills and assertiveness to keep a bunch of passionate campaigners following office procedures. You are diligent and thorough in keeping records and ensuring compliance with government or business reporting requirements, and have the judgement to manage suppliers and IT service subscriptions. You are comfortable working with a wide range of people, and enjoy bringing order to an organisation that thrives on the energy of volunteers and member groups.

The Administration Officer reports to the Director. This would be a part time role that supports the Director to implement key goals in 2020-2023 Strategic Plan with a specific focus on the following three strategic focus areas:

  • Moving beyond colonial practices
  • Bringing people together to create change
  • Aligning our organisation for growth and change
  • Location: Brisbane
  • Hours: Part time (4 days per week). Flexibility in working outside standard office hours will occasionally be required
  • Responsible to: Director
  • Term of employment: Permanent position, with 3-month probationary period
  • Remuneration:$59,046 per annum, plus 10% superannuation and 17.5% holiday leave loading (SCHADS Level 4.1)

The Organisation

Queensland Conservation Council (QCC) is the state’s peak non-government environment group. Our mission is to protect the environment, wildlife and landscapes, conserve our precious natural resources and make Queensland businesses and communities more sustainable.

We achieve our goals by advocating to the government, engaging with the community and informing through the media. We apply the latest scientific research to develop policies. We monitor progress and rate the performance of governments, their programs, and companies, holding them accountable to their commitments to the environment.

Incorporated in 1969, we are a non-profit community organisation with no political affiliations.

We have a membership of almost 60 environment groups throughout Queensland, who we consult and coordinate with. QCC is governed by an Executive Committee elected by our members. The QCC Director leads a small, dedicated staff team and we are assisted by enthusiastic volunteers.

Responsibilities

  1. Office management, IT, inventory and storage
  2. Compliance and reporting and Secretariat support
  3. Suppliers (eg. contracts for services and subscriptions such as insurance, IT, office),
  4. Contributing to the implementation of actions detailed in the Reconciliation Action Plan including support around events, organisational review, communications;
  5. Organisational diary management and scheduling
  6. Director’s diary, and minor PA assistance
  7. Support on Event logistics
  8. Supporting HR processes implementing process reviews for effective organisational practices

Selection criteria

  1. Experience in administration and/or program support
  2. Experience in event organisation (including logistics + some promotions)
  3. Must have Multicultural Competence: ability to understand, appreciate, and interact respectfully with people who identify with cultures and/or belief systems different from your own
  4. Demonstrated experience managing grants, government compliance, deadlines and suppliers
  5. Experience in the not for profit sector is advantageous
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people
