ABOUT QUEENSLAND UNIONS:

The Young Workers Hub (YWH) is an education, support and campaigning organisation for Queensland workers under 30 years of age. It runs out of the Queensland Council of Unions (QCU), the peak body for unions in Queensland.

ABOUT THE YOUNG WORKERS HUB:

The YWH is run for young workers, by young workers. The YWH Organiser educates and empowers young workers to know their rights at work. The YWH Organiser also supports young workers to run campaigns important to them, such as wage theft campaigns.

  • The position is based at the QCU in Brisbane, Queensland.
  • Date: Commencing Feb 2022
  • Job Type: 12 months fixed; Part time
  • Pay: Attractive base salary, dependent on experience plus 15% superannuation
  • Manager: Martin de Rooy (YWH Co-Director), Michael Clifford (QCU Secretary)

DUTIES FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Liaising with education providers and stakeholders
  • Visiting groups of young people to deliver workplace rights training
  • Assisting young workers with general information
  • Running campaigns and digital communications
  • Other duties as required

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • An understanding of issues affecting young workers
  • Ability to develop and maintain activists
  • Demonstrated team work
  • Digital communication, design skills
  • Industrial interest or training

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Commitment to youth advocacy and workers’ rights
  • Strong activist development skills 
  • Ability to run workplace and industry specific campaigns
  • Current Driver’s License, Working with Children Card (or ability to apply)
