Role

With a commitment to social justice, the QSTARS Tenant Advice Worker plays a critical role in the delivery of expert, accurate and consistent tenancy advice, advocacy and casework services to tenants and residents renting in the Sunshine Coast, Noosa, and Gympie Regions. These services are carried out by phone and face to face to empower clients to understand and access their rights and obligations under the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008.

As part of QSTARS Team, the position supports tenants through legal pathways of Notices, Dispute Resolution and QCAT to assert rightful and responsible outcomes. The position requires the worker to facilitate meetings with real estate agents or landlords to enable informal and /or formal dispute resolution processes, preparation, and representation in QCAT where a tenant has limited capacity to advocate on their own.

The position where necessary co-ordinates with local service providers to address issues to assist tenants sustain their tenancy.

You will be required to use a database for the recording of advice and instances of service delivery as required under the QSTARS service delivery model and work in compliance with the risk management requirements of a Community Legal Service.

You will be required to act professionally ethically in your conduct and communications.

You will report to the QSTARS Team Leader and Managing Solicitor as needed, be fully accountable to the Management Committee and work alongside staff, volunteers from the legal service and social work team.

The position will from time to time require travel to outreach community access locations and is primarily based in Maroochydore.
