Your new role

The position is an important position in the Children’s Contact Service. The Program Support Worker works closely with the Team Leader to provide direct service delivery and ensure the effective operation and planning of the program. The role requires well-developed practice skills, as well as flexibility, initiative, coordination and organisational skills.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Assist Team Leader in the behind the scenes planning and operation of the service.
  • Provide support and supervision assistance to casual support workers as required.
  • Facilitate child-focused supervision of visits (contact) between children and young people and their parent/carer.
  • Facilitate the safe and conflict-free transfer of children and young people and their parent or carer (eg. Initiating and sustaining play activities).
  • Assisting the Team Leader to interview and assess families for risk and suitability to access Children's Contact Service.
  • Planning, negotiation and setting up of contact arrangements, including orientation of children.
  • Providing case management including case review, evaluation and referral to internal and external programs.
  • Assisting in the supervision of casual staff including providing guidance and support while they are engaged in a supervised visit or changeover, taking action on serious matters, preparing and debriefing meetings.
  • Participating in and facilitate any program review and evaluation.

About you:

To flourish in this role you will have:

  • Clinical expertise in working in a challenging environment with the ability to maintain impartiality within a child-focused context.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexities of family relationships and the impact of issues affecting families and children including family safety.
  • Capacity to use self-reflection, clinical supervision and professional development to improve practice and model effectively to casual staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to engage children, young people and their parents/carers and all relevant stakeholders.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social science, psychology, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of family separation, domestic violence, and conflict on children and young people.
  • Previous experience working with people with complex needs, including mental health and substance abuse issues.
  • Knowledge/understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people.
