The Organisation

Our client, the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) is the peak professional organisation for gut and liver health in Australia. GESA sets, promotes and continuously improves the standards of practice, training and research in gastroenterology and hepatology in Australia.

The Role

The Finance and Operations Manager will work collaboratively with the CEO, Finance Audit and Risk Committee (FARC) and Board of Directors to ensure that GESA’s finances, business operations and quality improvement processes enable sustainable growth for GESA. Additionally, the role will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance with the Corporations Act 2001, Australian Charities, NFP Commission Act 2012 and other relevant legislation
  • Overseeing GESA’s finance and operations functions (including people management)
  • Assisting GESA’s HR Manager to ensure the successful operations of GESA’s HR activities and initiatives
  • Managing and supporting business development and grant application opportunities
  • Overseeing support for various member groups and networks
  • Overseeing various projects and programs to ensure GESA meets its strategic priorities and objectives

The successful applicant will have

  • 10+ years’ experience in a similar role (working with a NFP Board, in the health sector highly desirable)
  • Tertiary qualifications in commerce or business majoring in finance and/or accounting or similar
  • Completion of, or currently completing CPA or CA qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage people, and projects, delivering on time and on budget
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder relationships to achieve joint objectives
  • An understanding of the legal and regulatory environment for NFP organisations
  • Exceptional financial literacy, skills in budget management and meticulous attention to detail
  • Financial modelling skills, including the ability to gather, analyse and report data
  • High-level interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organisational, planning and multi-tasking skills with the ability to coordinate competing priorities
  • Advanced level proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite, XERO, Calxa, Asana and SharePoint
