Our client, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand Ltd (TSANZ) is a health promotion charity whose mission is to lead, support and enable all health workers and researchers who aim to prevent, cure, and relieve the burden, disability and mortality caused by respiratory conditions.

The TSANZ is the only Peak Body in Australia that represents all health professionals working in all fields of respiratory health and has a membership base of over 1800 individuals.

The TSANZ is a leading provider of evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of respiratory conditions in Australia and New Zealand, undertakes professional education and training, is responsible for significant research administration, and coordinates an accredited respiratory laboratory program.

The role

The primary focus of the role is to coordinate research activities, including project development, funding, and award administration. The role works closely and collaboratively with and supports the Research and Policy Manager and the Research Subcommittee.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the TSANZ’s research and awards management system
  • Ensure that all research processes are acknowledged as being fair and transparent and supporting diversity
  • Help build research capacity and raise the profile of the respiratory research workforce in Australia and New Zealand
  • Contribute to development of strategies which maximise research and translational benefits to the TSANZ and its members
  • Work collaboratively, develop and sustain robust relationships with all stakeholders
  • Identify and work with the leadership team to seek and support activities to increase funding available for respiratory research
  • Act as the primary point of contact and secretariat for the Research subcommittee, including the preparation of Board papers, agenda, and meeting minutes and provide admin support to research and office activities

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Education / Experience

  • A recognised diploma or degree in a relevant field
  • NFP (preferably health sector) experience in an admin, secretariat or project management role
  • Familiarity of the research sector challenges and opportunities in Australia & New Zealand highly desirable
  • Knowledge and experience of award processes and governance

Skills / Competencies

  • Exceptional organisational, planning, and multi-tasking skills
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage stakeholder relationships to achieve joint objectives
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, with advanced level proficiency in Excel, and Web CMS
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy with a proactive approach to minimise errors
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Creative and innovative with a “can-do” attitude
  • Established relationships within the NFP sector and government funders highly desirable
