NEW GRADUATES... Move quickly to consolidate your degree into a professional skills base required for a career path in the human services sector. With the arrival of the National Disability Insurance Scheme there will be a variety of managerial roles developing across the sector and with current, experience based skills you will be able to secure a career in the disability sector. This program bridges participants through a fast tracking approach to accruing practical experience and sector specific training while earning a wage.
RISC is offering up to four new graduates, an opportunity to spend time with our organisation in order to expand their professional experience of advocacy and individualised program development for people who have disabilities. Graduates from the fields of psychology, education, social work, human services, nursing, allied health fields, leisure management and community development etc would benefit the most from this program.
The support of our client group is paid throughout the year and will account for half the weekly hours done. This paid employment in the field ensures you develop concrete interpersonal and professional skills with this client group and their families. This delivers opportunities to expand your capabilities in planning and implementing skill development programs and community networking for individuals. Also in the areas of communication and relationship building with the person.
This individualised support is achieved through a valuable 1:1 support environment and is community based. Allocation of these roles is based on a range of factors, which include the client's involvement in interviewing to ensure the clientele have the highest motivation and satisfaction with their support and advocacy.

This developmental, experiential element is integral to maximising the benefit of the years program to successful candidates. It is envisaged that the program will run for no more than 12 months. It's primary function being the provision of experience and guidance to new graduates who anticipate and value pursuing a career in the disability field or whose career path would be significantly enriched by quality experience of working with and for people with disabilities.
A commitment to the dignity and respect of people with disabilities and a commitment to expanding people's social horizons and personal identities through recreation, lifestyle choices and involvement in community experiences/life are prerequisites to inclusion in this program.
Proximity to the northern suburbs of Brisbane and capacity to commit to a minimum of 30 hours across the week is required. Paid component (approx 15 hours) casual pay rate is from $29 - $36 per hour.
