The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals NSW is a not-for-profit organisation in Australia that cares for, treats, protects and rehomes animals across the state, providing a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. We run a number of shelters and veterinary hospitals dedicated to treating, rehabilitating and rehoming animals. With over 500 staff, RSPCA NSW is dedicated to working with the community to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.

About the Role

At RSPCA NSW we have shelters, clinics, branches, foster carers, volunteers and customers all across the state that need us to get to them animals, medication, food and supplies quickly and efficiently, seven days a week. It is a big job and an important job, and we are looking for someone special to run the whole transport operation for us as our Logistics Manager. This is a new role, so there is the opportunity to make it your own, but also make sure we get all we need across our network, at the time we need it safely and effectively. Setting up processes, developing and implementing a new system and working with our team across NSW to enable them to provide the best possible care for our animals every day.

The Logistics Manager is responsible for managing the execution, direction, and coordination of all transportation matters within RSPCA across NSW. This includes managing budgets, organising schedules and routes, ensuring that vehicles are safe and meet legal requirements, and making sure that our drivers are aware of their duties at all times. The role will also be responsible for organising the logistics of the RSPCA NSW response to emergencies such as bushfires and large animal seizure events in partnership with our Inspectorate team.

Duties and Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Planning routes and load scheduling for multi-drop deliveries.
  • Booking in deliveries and liaising with internal and external customers.
  • Allocating and recording resources and movements on the RSPCA transport planning system.
  • Ensuring all partners in the supply chain are working effectively and efficiently to ensure smooth operations.
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders and responding to their requirements.
  • Keep track of animal capacity, equipment needs, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency as well as shelter storage space availability
  • Resolve any arising problems or complaints as well as hold ups or congestion in deliveries
  • Maintain metrics and analyse data to assess performance and implement improvements
  • Develop new strategies to streamline processes and reduce cost
  • Ensure that quality, quantity, customer satisfaction, and financial commitments are met

About You

  • You have a full Drivers Licence
  • We prefer you have a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, supply chain, or relevant field but it’s not essential
  • You have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role in logistics/transport planning
  • You have some high level of experience in implementing and operating technical logistics/transport systems
  • You have been working across multiple geographic sites with numerous stakeholders and customers
  • You have worked in project management and change implementation in a multi-faceted organisation
  • You have experience in developing a “greenfield” logistics/transport strategy across a multi sited business
