The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals NSW is a not-for-profit organisation in Australia that cares for, treats, protects and rehomes animals across the state, providing a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. We run a number of shelters and veterinary hospitals dedicated to treating, rehabilitating and rehoming animals. With over 500 staff, RSPCA NSW is dedicated to working with the community to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Central West Shelter is now looking for a new Supervisor.

The Shelter Supervisor supports the Shelter achieve exceptional customer service and positive animal care outcomes. The role is responsible for developing and guiding staff and

volunteers, as well as ensuring a high standard of animal wellbeing is maintained and an effective service is provided to the public.

The Shelter Supervisor will be required to work a 7-day rotating roster, including alternate weekends and occasional public holidays.

The Central West Shelter is located in Orange, NSW and has the capacity to care for 44 canines, 21 felines and various pocket pets. This is done with a team of 10 staff supported by volunteers. The Shelter also supports a good network of foster carers that are located across the Central West, including Dubbo.

The Shelter looks after a large geographical area and provides adoption ready cats and kittens to the Petbarn stores in Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo.

The key accountabilities for this role are as follows:

  • Oversee daily operations and ensure tasks are carried out appropriately and efficiently and to ensure issues are promptly addressed.
  • Induct and train staff and volunteers to ensure they are appropriately skilled to undertake the range of duties
  • Lead, advise and guide staff to ensure a constructive and harmonious work environment is maintained
  • Provide high level of customer service to members of the public to ensure high standards of public relations are maintained
  • Support staff to ensure compliance to WH&S legislative requirements are adhered to
  • Answer enquiries and address concerns and/or problems from members of the public, staff, volunteers and external agencies to resolve potential conflicts and enhance the Society’s image
  • Counsel staff and assist with regular probation and performance appraisals to ensure competent performance is achieved
  • Assist with the organisation and co-ordination of special events
  • Assist with recruitment and induction of new members of staff
  • Manage stock control and ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained

ABOUT YOU

The person we are seeking will have at least 2 years’ experience in a management and leadership role, particularly in a service provision environment and most importantly, has supervised a team on a day-to-day basis. The person will have experience in working with a diverse team of people and the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders.

It would also be beneficial to have animal handling and animal care experience.
