About RSPCA NSW

The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals NSW is a not-for-profit organisation in Australia that cares for, treats, protects, and re-homes animals across the state, providing a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. We run a number of shelters and veterinary hospitals dedicated to treating, rehabilitating and rehoming animals. With over 500 staff, RSPCA NSW is dedicated to working with the community to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.

About Our Role

We have two fantastic new roles as our Volunteer Co-Ordinator, at our Hunter and Sydney Shelters and Clinics. We have recognised for a long time, that our volunteers are exceptional and are a vital part to our ongoing success.

It takes a competent leader to succeed in this type of work. You should know how to distinguish volunteer talent and do everything possible to motivate and inspire. You need excellent organisational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experience in a very fast paced environment. The goal is to ensure that RSPCA NSW is always staffed with the best and most reliable volunteers in Australia, and that they are fully utilised for the fulfilment of our mission. It will be a fun role and one that feels great to be a part of.

What You Will Love Doing Everyday

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Manage, lead, and develop volunteers to the highest levels of performance, engagement and job satisfaction, which will require some weekend and late-night work to cover our opening hours
  • Work directly and daily with our shelter and clinic teams to develop volunteers’ work schedules, roster planning and training required to fulfil productive roles
  • Keep and manage effective records of volunteers’ information, training and work completed in RSPCA Volunteer System
  • Evaluate and assess volunteer work and provide constructive feedback when required
  • Train and develop our own team in effective volunteer management strategies and procedures
  • Co-ordinate and implement volunteer involvement in large seizure, rescue and natural disasters as required
  • Provide an environment that is safe to all volunteers on each and every shift
  • Be surrounded by the most gorgeous animals every day in a job that will make everyone you know incredibly jealous

About You

  • Preferred experience in volunteer management in a high paced non-for-profit environment
  • Prior experience in customer/volunteer management systems (e.g. Salesforce, Better Impact)
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Innovative thinker with fresh ideas and the willingness to make a real difference to our animals’ welfare
  • The desire to work with people to improve animal welfare outcomes
  • Initiative and ability to prioritise
  • Experienced team leader with the ability to drive and motivate the team to meet critical deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Current driver's license
  • Resilience – the ability to bounce back from the occasional setback
