Who is Rural Aid?
Rural Aid is one of the largest rural charities in Australia. It was founded in 2015 on the back of the very successful “Buy a Bale” drought fundraising campaign of 2013. Funded by donations, the charity provides support and assistance to farmers and rural communities during times of natural disasters and supports the long-term sustainability of the agriculture sector.
Rural Aid’s vision is that farming and rural communities are safeguarded to ensure their sustainability before, during and after natural disasters. Our mission is to provide economic and empathetic support and assistance to rural communities impacted by natural disaster, through partnering with key stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes. Rural Aid promises to ensure donors’ money is used transparently to provide effective and timely assistance to those most in need.

Due to the expansion of Rural Aid’s mental health and wellbeing program, we have a brand new and exciting opportunity for an experienced Team Leader to join our growing team and make an impact on our Mental Health and Wellbeing program and outcomes.
Reporting to the Manager – Mental Health and Wellbeing, the Team Leader role supports the leadership of a multidisciplinary team of practitioners who work remotely across Australia supporting farmers, families, and rural communities. The Team Leader has a key role in:
- shaping the future direction of the Mental Health and Wellbeing program;
- contributing to the development of therapeutic services, and
- ensuring the Mental Health and Wellbeing services engage meaningfully with other parts of Rural Aid, making best use of internal and external resources and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide leadership, guidance and oversight to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Team, including the management of performance and professional development plans
- Provide day to day support, clinical consultation, case allocation and regular supervision to practitioners
- Ensure the mental health and wellbeing team maintain up to date and accurate records, client case notes, and outcomes measures
- Take a lead role in service development and capacity building, contributing ideas and suggestions to support service innovation and program development
- Support the development of a mental health and wellbeing outcomes framework
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement and development of innovative, evidence informed and outcomes focused interventions
- In collaboration with other organisational leaders, develop and implement a trauma informed, quality, integrated service for rural communities delivering services across the continuum of mental health
- Support the coordination of mental help responses to communities who have experienced disasters
- Maintain a small caseload of clients and provide effective counselling to individuals, families and groups including provision of psycho-social assessments and case planning
- Support implementation of WHS practices including risk assessment review and outreach support
- Develop collaborative relationships with partner organisations and the broader sector
- Comply with organisational, funding, and legislative requirements for information sharing, case noting and reporting, and
- Demonstrate commitment to own learning and development, including active participation in supervision and training.
The ideal candidate will possess the following Qualifications & Experience:
- Formal qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, or related discipline and membership of the relevant association (AHPRA, PACFA, ACA, AASW for example).
- Knowledge and experience with evidence-based therapeutic frameworks including trauma informed practice principles.
- Experience in the design and delivery of face-to-face and telehealth counselling for individuals, families or groups for diverse client groups.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing staff, including practice supervision, recruitment and managing individual key performance indicators
- Ability to plan, prioritise and influence individual and team performance to achieve business outcomes and targets.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and respond to risk from a client, employee, and organisational perspective.
- Demonstrated experience of managing service delivery targets in line with funding and partner agreements.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills, and high-level competency with technology including the use of CRMs.
- Previous experience and knowledge in Community Development will be highly regarded.
- Current drivers’ licence.
