Save the Children's "It Takes a Village" program works with recently arrived migrants and asylum seekers, helping engages socially isolated families and their children by connecting them to each other and their local communities. We need you to join our play-centred program, which supports these children to develop their social skills, independence and in turn their capacity to learn. Help these families navigate their children's transition into the Australian education system, giving their children the best possible chance to thrive.

Where you come in:

In this full-time fixed term position (38 hours per week Monday to Friday, until end of December 2021, with potential for extension), you'll provide children of recently arrived migrants and asylum seekers with fun and educational activities in our supported playgroups. As part of the It Takes a Village (ITAV) program, you'll also support parents with advice, skills, links and referrals to other community services. Based in our Brisbane office, you will be part of our ITAV team and report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Planning and facilitating weekly culturally appropriate playgroup sessions
  • Finding creative ways to encourage vulnerable families from diverse backgrounds
  • Identifying and addressing physical, social/emotional and educational needs of children
  • Providing information and referrals to families to access other relevant programs or welfare agencies
  • Process monitoring, data collection and reporting

Does this sound like you?

You have experience in early childhood programs, a 'toolkit' of strategies and the ability to think on your feet. Your cultural knowledge is exceptional, and you have experience working with children and families from all walks of life and backgrounds Your infectious enthusiasm for your job will see you actively seeking out families in need of support. You consider yourself a team player; you love partnerships, collaboration and have an 'all-hands-on-deck' attitude.

This role requires:

  • Minimum Diploma in Children's Services or equivalent qualification
  • Experience delivering early learning activities based on the Early Years Learning Framework
  • Experience working with vulnerable families and/or families from culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Well-developed time management, organisational, and data collection skills
  • Experience working with interpreters or speaking multiple languages is desirable
  • Current valid driver's licence
