Early Childhood Educator - Moe / Latrobe

Save The Children

Playing is not only a child's right, it is also proven to have significantly positive effects on early childhood development. Our play-centred program supports young children to develop their social skills, independence, and in turn their capacity to learn. We need you to give these children an experience of quality early childhood education, to develop their appetite for learning and help enable a smooth transition into school.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this casual role, based in Latrobe, you will co-ordinate the planning, implementation, and review of culturally appropriate developmental play and learning experiences for children. Based in our Latrobe office, you will be part of our Australian Services team and report to our Team Leader - Latrobe and East Gippsland.

You will make an impact by:

  • Planning and facilitating weekly playgroup sessions
  • Providing information and referrals to families to access other relevant programs or services
  • Ensuring equipment is age-appropriate and well maintained for group programs
  • Monitoring processes, data collection and reporting

Does this sound like you?

You have experience in early childhood programs, a 'toolkit' of strategies, and the ability to think on your feet which allows you to find solutions to complex situations. Your infectious enthusiasm for your job will see you actively seeking out families in need of support. You consider yourself a team player, you love partnerships and collaboration, and have an 'all-hands-on-deck' attitude.

This role requires:

  • Experience in providing a range of learning experiences to stimulate children's growth and development and an understanding of child development ages and stages
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work as autonomously as well as an integral part of a team sharing responsibility for service delivery
  • Knowledge and experience in group processes and facilitation, especially with families in vulnerable communities
  • Minimum in Diploma in Children's Services or community service
  • Current valid driver's licence

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same.
