Where you come in:

In this full time, maximum term position (through to June 2023) based in Newman, you'll deliver programs and services that promote positive approaches to parenting and family wellbeing. Reporting to the Team Leader who is based in Perth (but visits regularly), your role will work closely with the community and aim to develop confidence in the support network that we deliver. Newman is the largest inland town in the Pilbara region. A modern town with a thriving population of 5,000, Newman is based in the heart of the Opthalmia ranges and is 192km from Karijini National Park. The traditional owners of the Newman area are the Nyiyaparli people who have conferred custodianship to the Martu people.

You will make an impact by:

• Providing one-on-one support to people in a parenting role, using a child centred approach
• Delivering group work through formal parenting programs and parenting information sessions
• Building strong, lasting connections with a diverse range of families, services and community groups
• Supporting families to access the assistance they need, when they need it
• Collecting and recording data and information for accountability, evaluation and reporting

You're truly passionate about standing up for children. Your experience in case management roles, and ability to think on your feet will see you identify parenting support strategies to support families. Your exceptional cultural knowledge will help you build strong connections with people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. You have empathy, lots of initiative and thrive on working autonomously on a daily basis with regular direction from management based offsite.

This role requires:

• Qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology or related discipline
• Proven ability to engage effectively with people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds
• The ability to work independently and to operate with minimal guidance
• Proven understanding of child development stages and influences
• Exceptional communications skills and the ability to build lasting connections
• Driver's licence (own car available for work use)
