Are you passionate about helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to get the best possible foundation for learning and life? Save the Children's Ngakulwen Nyerrwe Children and Family Centre works with children and families on Mornington Island, in collaboration with local service providers and community groups. We are looking for an experienced leader, committed to staff development and wellbeing, as well as someone who is genuinely interested in collaboration with external partners.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We've been working with families and communities in Queensland as a trusted support for children for nearly 70 years. More information on our work in Queensland is available here.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, fixed term position (to June 2024, with potential for extension), based on Mornington Island, you'll work alongside the Director of the Long Day Care Centre to develop a strong commitment to children across all Save the Children programs operating in the community to bridge the gap between early childhood services, family support and health delivery systems in partnership with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, community members, elders and leaders on Mornington Island. You will be part of our Australian Services team and report to our Senior Manager.

You will make an impact by:

  • Engaging with families, the community, local service providers and key government departments to build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships
  • Supporting local capacity building across all service delivery areas of the Centre, including outreach within a multi-disciplinary framework for early intervention
  • Initiating and coordinating activities and events at the Centre
  • Contributing to evidence-based practice standards and continuously seeking improvement in child and parent support services, in partnership with community
  • Leading and developing a dedicated and driven team

Does this sound like you?

You're experienced, vibrant and excited about the prospect of supervising a team and supporting our Children and Family Centre. You're active, creative and flexible in your approach to working with families and children, using a trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally sensitive framework within communities working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You have the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with external organisations at all levels, and you can supervise, coach and mentor others with an empathetic approach. You're also an excellent administrator, with great organisational and computer skills.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience in working within remote or regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Expertise in program delivery and evaluation, with a focus on children and young people
  • Experience developing strong referral pathways and in working in partnership in community to achieve impact
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to nurture a cohesive team
  • Qualifications in Human Services or a similar field would be highly regarded
  • Current valid driver's licence
