Be part of Save the Children's Back on Track program, an NT government initiative which aims to prevent youth crime, divert young people away from the youth justice system and provide alternatives to detention. We need you to join a dedicated team to maximise the impact of our programs on the lives of young people, so we're seeking someone with a passion for assisting our communities' most vulnerable youth.

Where you come in:

In this full time, fixed-term position (to end of September 2023, with potential for extension), based in Katherine, you'll work with the Back on Track team to you'll provide one to one mentoring with young people to build a strong trusting relationship and develop individualised goals. You'll work to offer practical assistance such as transport and encouragement to attend appointments, making referrals and supporting young people to engage with a variety of services whilst reconnecting to family, community, and culture. As part of our NT Programs Team, you'll report to the Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Working closely with the qualified Back on Track Teacher
  • Developing rapport with young people through an assertive outreach approach
  • Supporting young people to access education, health, recreation and other services, and building on these referral pathways
  • Working with other key stakeholders to strengthen collaborative practice to ensure young people receive coordinated supports
  • Completing administrative tasks such as maintaining case notes, administering client assessments and report writing

This role requires:

  • Ability to work with at-risk young people, with complex needs
  • Knowledge of the issues facing young people in the community, including trauma, neglect and abuse
  • Strong time management, organisational and record keeping skills
  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant field, or significant equivalent experience
  • Current valid Driver's Licence
