We have a rewarding position of Advocacy Officer available with primary responsibility in providing individual advocacy to people with disability experiencing any issues related to services and supports across the NDIS, health, housing, employment, transport, education et cetera.

The Advocacy Services team is at the forefront of advocating for the rights of people with Spinal Cord Injury at both systemic and individual level.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Provide information and advice on the NDIS
  • Provide individual advocacy support, developing and implementing an individual plan in partnership with the applicant;
  • Provide education and skills development, such as self-advocacy support for individuals and self-advocacy group sessions
  • Ensure the philosophy, mission and goals of empowerment are maintained or enhanced
  • Meet with individuals, whether by phone, in person, or by email/web contact, in order to respond to consumer needs and requests for information
  • Provide assistance to individuals in navigating NDIS internal review and external review through the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, including participating in case conferences and attending hearings
  • Work with individuals in partnership with other SCIA staff and community agencies to get needs addressed
  • Assist consumers to identify goals and develop independence
  • Complete all reporting necessary for consumer service records and ensure mandatory data entry is up-to-date into government data exchange to meet regulatory and contractual requirements

You will possess the ability, energy and passion to deliver quality services and have the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively where required.

In addition, you will have experience and skills in the following areas:

  • Demonstrated experience and skill in advocacy process and practice
  • Demonstrated experience and confidence in participating in roundtable discussions with various levels of government
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Disability sector and awareness of associated issues and barriers faced by individuals living with disability
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly computer literate with strong database usage skills
