Strategic Objectives

  1. Reduce waste to landfill and into the ocean.
  2. Educate local communities about circular economies of plastic, textile and organic waste streams to create responsible consumers.
  3. Develop champions for change.
  4. Create pathways for public, private and community sectors to work together to adopt planet-friendly behaviours.
  5. Connect and grow the Scavenge community to become custodians of the planet.

Since 2015, Seaside Scavenge has been on a mission to activate local communities to reimagine rubbish as a valued resource, and not something we throw away. As a young organisation we are looking to recruit a passionate and committed Director to contribute to an Active Board, and build a resilient and impactful environmental organisation. Ideally the candidate has previous board experience.

Board Functions

  • Advocacy - representing and promoting Seaside Scavenge to potential partners and donors;

  • Resourcing - securing funding and other resources to support the work of Seaside Scavenge;

  • Strategy - setting Seaside Scavenge’s long term goals and ensuring it pursues its purpose, and;

  • Accountability - ensuring Seaside Scavenge meets its obligations, manages finances and operates transparently under its governing documents and law.

Director Qualities

  • Integrity - embody a high degree of professional ethics and sound judgement;

  • Self-motivated - committed and driven by the Seaside Scavenge vision and mission, and;

  • Well-connected - industry knowledge and connections.

Director Expectations

  • Attend 80% of board meetings in person;

  • Pay Board Director fee;

  • Contribute eight hours a month in addition to board meetings;

  • Serve on subcommittees and take on special assignments, and;

  • Contribute actively to the board's annual evaluation and strategic efforts.
