ABOUT US

Seniors Rights Service has been assisting older Australians as the leading provider of legal services, aged care advocacy and rights education and information to seniors in NSW since 1986. This position will lead a team of Aged Care Advocates across Sydney Metro to support older people who receive or are applying for government-subsidised aged care by providing advocacy services, assisting in understanding and accessing the aged care system. Aged Care Advocates assist older people and their representatives to exercise their rights through a supportive process which includes the provision of information, education and support.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a result of exciting growth in our sector, we are looking for a full-time Team Leader - Advocacy Services to manage and lead our Sydney-Metro based team of Aged Care Advocates. This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and dynamic individual to support a growing team of Advocates who make a real difference to the lives of older people. This position is full-time on a max-term contract arrangement to the end of June 2025, aligning with our current funding period. This role is based in our Surry Hills office and has access to hybrid work arrangements, including a blend of office-based, community based and remote work. Travel within the Sydney-Metro region is a requirement of the role.

Key duties include:

  • People and financial management.
  • Delivery against agreed budgets, program outcomes and reporting.
  • Working with your team to coordinate the provision of information and education sessions to residents of aged care homes, retirement villages, carers, staff of aged care services, health care professionals and other community organisations.
  • Lead and manage individual staff and the team to achieve Seniors Rights Service’s vision and strategic goals through promotion of our values and setting exceptional standards with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Lead and participate in Seniors Rights Service’s Performance and Development Review program and create Individual Work Plans for all direct reports.
  • Have a solid understanding of human service contracts and service agreements including reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with other service providers including aged care settings, key stakeholders and community service agencies and to achieve positive client outcomes.
  • Manage and develop relationships and partnering opportunities with key community stakeholders.

ABOUT YOU

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or extensive and demonstrated experience in a people management position, including a strong interest in coaching and developing staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management with a focus on continuous quality improvement.
  • Strong financial management skills including contract management, budgeting, monitoring expenditure and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  • Adapts well to and can lead, drive and advocate change in a growing organisation.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage complex and often competing tasks and priorities and the ability to prioritise your own work to deliver results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and fluent in the use of technology including Microsoft Office and reporting applications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the rights of older people and the dynamics of ageism.
  • Willingness to obtain an annual flu vaccination and be fully COVID vaccinated. Hold a valid federal police record check and driver’s license.
