Associate / Senior Associate - Abuse Law

Shine Lawyers

Our Firm

Come and right wrong with us. At Shine Lawyers, we challenge the “norms” of traditional law firms, and are committed to understanding the needs of our clients, pro-actively working to always stand up for the little guy. We’re a national team of dedicated professionals, whose willingness to think creatively positions us ahead of the pack.

The Team

We are proud to have a motivated and expert team assisting primarily survivors of abuse. This dedicated national team of specialists work on matters that make a real difference in the lives of their clients.

In response to increased demand to secure resolutions for our deserving clients, an opportunity has arisen for an Associate or Senior Associate to join a supportive and friendly team, who strongly believe in handling our clients' claims with empathy, and a willingness to think creatively.

The Role

This role will join our national team, and is the first of it's kind based in Darwin, giving you an opportunity to truly own our Darwin Abuse Law practice in this permanent role. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey. While we have a preference for those who are able to work full time, we are supportive of flexible work practices.

You'll be mentored by pre-eminent experts in the field, who have been invited to speak both locally and internationally as part of various committees and enquiries. This role will not just see you secure justice for those who have been wronged, but also give you the opportunity to influence change in the way we protect our children, and position yourself as a thought leader.

Although Abuse Law experience across any jurisdiction is highly preferable, it's not essential for success - we are open to mentoring a dedicated and experienced personal injuries solicitor. So, if you are committed to assisting vulnerable people with achieving justice, and bring sensitivity and expertise to the table, this may be your next move.

  • Provide clients with legal advice and representation to obtain compensation
  • Work across a variety of client matters that require a high level of sensitivity
  • Provide legal advice to each client's particular matter to suit their level of understanding
  • Develop and maintain strong professional working relationships with clients, including effective and regular communication and managing the client's expectations
  • Draft legal documentation with a high degree of attention to detail
  • Manage and run a file load with a high level of commercial and fiscal awareness
  • Take an active role in working with and mentoring junior members of the team

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years post-admission experience, with expertise in personal injury law.
  • Enjoy working on legally challenging and factually complex matters.
  • Maturity and confidence to deal with clients, senior and junior counsel and expert witnesses.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • A desire to be part of a strong, cohesive team that works together to get great results.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with experts in multiple fields.
  • Demystifying the legal process to those unfamiliar with the legal system.
  • Passionate, motivated and enthusiastic individual who wants to take their career to the next level.
