About us

Skadia Technologies is a start-up company with a mission to bring innovations that improve sustainability in primary industries to market. We are currently commercialising the Underwater Bait Setter, a new innovation that stops seabird bycatch in the longline fishing industry.

The position

Skadia Technologies is seeking an individual to lead business development, company growth and day to day operations while responding to the strategic guidance of the Board.

Duties include:

  • Managing supported deployment of the Bait Setter in Australia, New Zealand and other early adopter markets
  • Liaising with stakeholders to ensure commercial demonstrations are successful
  • Building direct sales relationships with industry – website, marketing, distributor relationships, customer relationships
  • Building IP relationships
  • Ensuring existing grants are acquitted appropriately, and identifying new funding opportunities
  • Maintaining and enhancing relationships with regulators and keeping regulatory environment informed and processes moving
  • Finding and acting on new opportunities that align with the company’s mission and purpose

The ideal candidate

An entrepreneurial mindset will be key to making this role really work. We require someone who can see and act on new opportunities, and who displays drive, initiative and good judgement in their work.

The ideal candidate will have broad management experience, understand risk and opportunity and be able to respond to the strategic direction of the Board. They will be a great team player and an excellent communicator with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. A genuine interest in sustainability and the role of new technology in creating sustainable primary industries is required. Previous experience in early-stage commercialisation will be looked on favourably.

The ideal candidate would not need to have a background specifically in the fishing industry, although this would be an advantage. A background in primary industries, agriculture, sustainability or natural resource management would also be of benefit.

The terms

It is expected that this role will require approximately 40 hours a month, with the opportunity to increase this through successfully building the business. A 12-month arrangement will be offered, with the possibility for extension. This is a senior level role and a competitive remuneration package will be negotiated, commensurate with skills and experience. Skadia Technologies is open to working with an employee or a contractor to fill this role.

Preferred locations are South-East Queensland or Canberra, but location is negotiable. We offer flexible, family-friendly work arrangements and a supportive team. Our company values diversity and encourages applications from a wide range of potential candidates.
