Operations & Retail Manager

Shared Source

At Small Batch, we believe the choices we make have the power to make a difference to people and to our planet. We exist to provide excellent coffee and food to sustain our community, and we take a soil-up, activist stance through our work to ensure that we are also contributing a broader good to the world.

We do not compromise our strict criteria for sourcing, whether we’re buying green coffee to roast or grain to mill for our croissants. We work directly with smallholder producers, paying them what they need to live well, advocating low volume and high quality, supporting regenerative agriculture and social justice initiatives at source. This means that you get the best raw product to work with, knowing that it doesn’t just taste good, it does good too.

We are actively working to circularise our systems, minimising both virgin resources into and waste out of our products. We may be slightly overzealous in our earnestness, but it is genuine and heartfelt.

Small Batch now has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and creative food professional to join our team as Operations & Retail Manager.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working closely with the Director, the successful candidate will provide a senior presence in the roastery, supporting our front of house operations, with all the fun stuff in between. You will take ownership of our systems and technologies, and work to improve our impact and efficiencies. You will manage our front of house and wholesale teams, ensuring the highest standards of product and service.

Your work-days will be varied and boredom-free. A typical week might include:

  • Strategising, drafting and executing for social media and marketing campaigns;
  • Working on our beverage program, including QC of sample roasts, developing our house-made non-coffee cold beverage, or making selections for our wine and beer list;
  • Liaising with wholesale partners;
  • Working in our front of house team in customer facing service;
  • Problem solving our waste systems;
  • Administration of customer correspondence and wholesale accounts;
  • Working with our designer on new product packaging, or editing and printing existing collateral;
  • Product development and execution for our retail offering, visual merchandising and stock management.

Join us and work with the best product available. Work autonomously and give real input, while also getting the support and guidance you need, and expand your management skills in leading a happy, professional team working with delicious product you can be proud of.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking someone with a broad coffee, food & beverage background, who is driven by a genuine love of flavour and ethical eating. You will have a strong understanding of service excellence, and the ability to communicate well with a variety of stakeholders.

Your written language skills will indicate attention to detail and care, which will translate to strong administrative and digital marketing skills.

If you’re looking to align with a small, for-profit and for-purpose company that does things the right way, this is the one.
