About the Role

The Family Lawyer will be working within the growing family law team at SMLS. This role supports vulnerable and disadvantaged community members by advising them of their legal rights and responsibilities in family law matters. SMLS is excited to be broadening our reach providing services at the Melbourne Registry as part of the ‘FASS’ (Family Advocacy and Support Services) program funded by Victoria Legal Aid Commission, and the provision of legally assisted family dispute resolution. This role will be a combination of FASS, FDR and case work.

About You

You will possess excellent communication and time management skills with a drive for positive outcome for clients as well experience in the provision and development of effective legal services to clients facing family law legal issues. As a Family Lawyer you will have at least 4 years post admission experience in family law.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide legal information, advice, referrals and undertake case work and represent clients
  • Provide duty lawyer services
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Ensure that all casework files are maintained to the highest standards
  • Ensure SMLS complies with its obligations under the Uniform Legal Profession Act and maintain a practice to the highest standard.

Benefits of the position:

  • This position is a fixed term (12 months) full time (38 hours per week) or part time (hours negotiable)
  • SCHCADS Award Level 6 – relevant to experience
  • Up to $16,000 per annum can be salary packaged.
  • 9.5% superannuation
