Thank you for your interest in applying for the position of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Youth Peer Support Worker based at our headspace Edinburgh North Centre.

We are seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with lived experience of social and emotional wellbeing concerns and recovery.

No formal qualification is required as we will support you to obtain a Certificate IV.

The Adelaide Primary Health Network has recently announced funding for a full time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Peer Support Worker to be based at headspace Edinburgh North.

This funding is part of the ‘Enhancing headspace Services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Project’ which aims to improve mental health and wellbeing experiences and outcomes for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the Adelaide metropolitan region.

The project will improve the capacity of these headspace centres to deliver culturally appropriate, sensitive and safe primary mental health care services for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at risk of, or experiencing, mental health conditions.

headspace is a service that aims to improve the wellbeing of young people aged 12-25, by providing support in the areas of mental health and wellbeing, physical health, alcohol and other drugs, work and study

Your key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Safely sharing your lived experience with others. This could be your having cared for someone with social emotional wellbeing difficulties or your own experience of social-emotional wellbeing difficulties
  • Offering hope and practical strategies to young people about social and emotional wellbeing recovery
  • Assessing young people's health and wellbeing needs
  • Collaborating on care plans
  • Providing non-clinical supports such as referrals and advocacy
  • Obtaining a Certificate IV in Peer Work, Mental Health or Youth Work (if you do not already have this level of qualification)
