Sonder is the lead agency for headspace Adelaide, Edinburgh North, Marion and Onkapringa.

Learn about the position:

Hours: Part Time (0.8FTE)

Location: Edinburgh North

The Employment Specialist will implement the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program at either headspace Onkaparinga or headspace Edinburgh North. As an Employment Specialist working in the IPS program your overall function is to assist young people (up to 25 years old) who volunteer for the program to find and retain competitive employment.

The Employment Specialist will facilitate intensive and individualised support. With a case load at a maximum of 20 active clients this allows the Employment Specialist the freedom and flexibility to support the young person in a way that is currently rare within the vocational sector.

Reporting directly to the Individual Placement Support Supervisor, your responsibilities will be:

  • Provide dedicated employment services to young people
  • Carry out all phases of employment services including intake, engagement, assessment, job placement, coaching and post placement follow-along support.
  • Support with job development activities including compiling resumes and cover letters, completing job applications, interview preparation.
  • Engage with government income support and labour market programs where suitable/necessary and assist young people to attend job service provider and Centrelink appointments.
  • Attend networking meetings and appointments with employers, community service organisations and education providers to create job opportunities for young people.
  • Attend relevant community events as required.

Experience requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced environment;
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field.
  • Experience in working with youth, families, agencies and communities.
  • Experience providing career-planning advice to young people.
  • An understanding of the Individual Placement and Support model
  • Experience working with people experiencing mental ill-health

Qualification requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience in using the Microsoft suite of software and databases
  • An appropriate qualification in a relevant field is desirable but not essential
  • Eligible for membership to the Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA) desirable but not essential
